If you are talking about windows xp sp1, you should really update to that, and then SP2. Neither update should delete your documents, but it is ALWAYS a good idea to have any important files backed up, especially if you are planning on a major OS upgrade (which this is). Once you get SP2 loaded, you should set windows to check for updates on a scheduled basis.

Installing SP1 (or the newer SP2) will not delete documents, programs, or anything else from your computer. All it does is replace some of the system files used for running Windows.

No service pack will delete any documents you have saved.

nah it just updates windows xp has nothing to do with personal programs/files.
