I started watching this film one day and never got the name but I think the opening scene is jimmy stewart sleeping on a boat and 2 men(sherrifs or government men looking to hire him i think) walk down the dock to wake him. it was in color and had a 70's feel to it ,was this cheyanne social club as I have never seen the very begining of that I do not believe

I don't know, maybe you can look at Jimmy Stewart's filmography on IMDB.com and can find something on the Westerns he has done.
The Cheyenne Social Club may be it, because the summary says that he is working for a low paying job and ends up finding out he has inherited the Cheyenne Social Club.
