Racers usually prefer to use nitrogen in race cars because it has a slight advantage in maintaining the same pressure as the tire heats up. This is mostly because bottled nitrogen has no water vapor in it, unlike most compressed air. Air is 78% nitrogen. 21% oxygen. Oxygen is responsible for oxidation, which breaks down many compounds, so taking it out of your tires may help reduce wear internally, but that is not usually a failure mode for tires. I believe nitrogen molecules are slightly bigger than oxygen molecules, so they may find it harder to permeate through your tire, helping maintain pressure.

If a dealer offers to put nitrogen in your tires, don't refuse it, but don't expect to notice any difference either.

I can's say i would see the point of putting nitrogen in your tires instead of just the compressed air at teh gas station that is usually free. There is some nitrogen in that compressed air though, about 70% is nitrogen so I guess its not a horrible thing to do.

Experts say that it's not worth the extra cost. The point of using nitrogen is to maintain a more stable pressure because it doesn't expand or contract as much as compressed air. The difference is so minimal, you'd hardly notice ... except when paying.

Stick with plain old air.

Yes. These people answering this question are so dumb, they probobly dont know what nitrogen is, lol. Go up to the tire store and have them fill your tires with nitrogen. Your car will handle better and get better gas mileage, because they wont lose pressure as quickly.

No benefit to speak of. It is just a money maker for the people that charge to do it. The atmosphere is mostly nitrogen anyway and to get pure nitrogen in you would have to pull a vacuum on the tire to get rid of what air is in it before you filled it..

The only company that I know that uses it is TiresPlus, I think it is NOTHING but a scam, and anybody is foolish to allow them to charge 12.00 to put it in their tires "for" them.
TiresPlus told me that it is better for the tire and the environment...I fail to see how it is better for the environment as all tires lose pressure over time. (that means that the nitrogen leaks out) and will have to be re-inflated.
Whereas, if you put compressed air in the tire and it leaks out, it is back where it came from.

You mean air?? The air we breathe is 80% nitrogen.... so filling your tires with regular air is nitrogen.... most people dont realize that.

They say you will get better gas mileage but by the time you figure how much extra per tire this costs you really aren't saving anything, just another one of the scams going on right now.
