I took gymastics when i was younger and i know how to do cartwheels, flips, and backward flips, and i'm very flexible. I never thought about becoming one before and i didnt really like cheerleaders when i was little but now i want the chance because i think i can come up with some very exclusive dance moves for a team.

No, cheerleaders are not preppy or perky all the time. They're regular people and it isn't like the cheerleaders u see in movies, like Bring it on.

But the probelm is, i'm really shy and quiet. I want to be able to dance in front of everyone but i havent quite came out of my shy shell yet. I'm not really the type of person who would join a cheerleadring team.

You're right. I wasn't a cheerleader, but I was a Song girl (kinda like the Laker Girls...we cheered AND danced but didn't do stunts). Even though a lot of cheerleaders are bitchy, cliqueish, and haughty, some of them (like the girls on my team) are very hardworking and down-to-earth. I think you should go for it. You'll undoubtedly make the team, and I think you will make a good choreographer for the team!

Good luck!

I think you should join a DANCE team, personally. All dancing, all the time. None of that yelling stuff.

If you don't have a hip-hop dance team at your school, start one! I had a friend who did last year and I'm on it. Petition the schoolboard to add it to your sports, find a coach, and start one.

I think, if you can't do that, then become a cheerleader if you want to! You don't need us to give you compliments you're obviously fishing for. Just go out and do it - I'm sure you'll be fine if you're very flexible. You're not shy enough to ask hundreds or thousands of people at once our opinion, so jumping around for an hour or so at a basketball game and having fun should be fine.

This really isn't a decision that the Yahoo! community should make though. It's entirely up to you.

I cheered all through high school and it was one of the best experiences outside of dancing. If you are shy this is the perfect way to get yourself out there and show people what you are made of..find out the criteria and go in there and rock it! I'm not sure if these days they still do an interview but if so tell just what you mentioned above "i think i can come up with some very exclusive dance moves for a team" but change the "I think" to "I know". I really hope you go for it, cheering was a great part of high school for me, I even work with a little community cheer groups as backup coach...talk about adorable...Gymnastics is a huge plus, I only studied for 1 year and decided to give it up to focus on dance...please do this you will be so proud of yourself I promise!

i am cheerleader and cheerleaders are nothing like the ones you see in bring it on and tv. I think you should go for it because alot of cheering competions always look for those back flips!! And if you took gymnastics then that would be great it will help you with cheerleading alot exspecially with balancing because i am a flyer and you can do really cool and fun things but you need to have good balance. I think that you would be perfect for it. Defentianly go for it from what you told me. You seem like an awesome talented person go for it dreams can come true!!!!!
I wish u were on my cheerleading team now lol.

If you really want to be a cheerleader, go for it!! But I'm warning you now, most school cheerleading squads do *very* little dancing/flips. The mainly shout cheers and jump up and down. If you want to join a *real* cheer squad, where you can actually compete and have interesting routines, try a cheer program outside of school, or join a dance team.

I think you should excpeccially if you have flips, thats not the most important thing but its a really good thing to have. When I first tried out for cheer I thought I was going to be terrified of cheering and dancing in front of people because I'm really shy too but once I got out there it was really fun and I wasn't nervous at all. Just make sure you have good jumps, tight motions and you smile!

hope this will help!=

Okay, I was a cheerleader and now I am a dancer. And I am glad you have realized it isn't always like you see in the movies!! You should most def. give cheerleading a try. I loved it..And it really helped me come out of my shell!! I was a really shy person and now I am very energetic and confident!! You should really try it.. after all..It couldn't hurt.. Hope I helped!

Yes, you should go for it.
Don't let anyone ever make you believe that you can't do what you want.
Look at Tyra Banks. She admits that when people found out she wanted to model, she was laughed at and told she would never make it.
You can do it. Whatever people will think about you will go away soon enough. You'll be more confident, you'll make new friends, learn something new...I bet tons of people regret never trying out for cheerleading.
Just go for it. Don't let anyone ever make you believe that you don't deserve what you want.

go for it! it's soooo much fun except for conditioning. yeah it deffinately sounds like you would be cut out for it, but there are a few more things to cheer so maybe just take up some classes or ask some of the cheer girls at your school to hang out and teach you some stuff to see if you like the rest of it before you decide. this will deffinately help you get ready for try-outs too! haaave fuuun! lol

Why waste your time doing that, when you could be doing something productive? Will you use cheerleading when you're out of school? There's a reason most people dislike them - is that what you want to be?

The decision, as always, is yours.
