I would say you have an AGP slot which unfortunately for you is old tech. You can still find these cards but watch the requirements on the better ones. I think the Nvidia 7800 is about as good as it get for AGP, i could be wrong. I bought a PNY Nvidia 7600 w/512mb for 200.00 brand new, but it was a PCI express card which is the newer tech.

AGP 8X or AGP 4X. AGP is being phased out in favor of PCI-E, but you can still buy an AGP card. What card you should get depends on what CPU you have. If your CPU is too slow there is no point in getting a really fast graphics card because the CPU won't be able to supply the card with data fast enough. First of all you need to no if you have a PCI,AGP,OR A PCI EXPRESS slot on your motherboard..You need to go to the manufacture of your pc's website and see what motherboard you have and find out what slots it has..I no there is 184 pin and different numbers of pins for diffrent slots..After you find out what you got then you can see what vid card options you have..ATI RADEON or NVIDIA are both good graphics cards..I use an old ati radeon 9200 series and its a pci and it works for all my games.
I got it new for 50 bucks..But if you can afford it get an agp or pci express only if your pc is able to handle it..And i dont think youll get a pci express for 250 bucks i think there expensive..I would go with an AGP if you can..
