There may be more wealthy people in the military than appears. My husband didn't join for the money, the job, or the education. He dreamed of being a soldier and it is a lifestyle, not a job for him. But, no one would know from where he came or what he has because his life is one of service and camaraderie. However, I think many answers here are correct.

There are wealthy in the military,they are wealthy in love for their country and fighting for what they believe in..,no amount of money can buy the courage our Armed Forces have.

There's not alot of millionaires that join, but most of the military is made up of middle class people. like myself I could have gone to college no problem but I chose to join. It is in my family history that we had someone serve in every military battle dating back to the Spanish American war. Just like if I have kids i'll encourage them to serve this great country as well
Its a lie that the military is made up of mostly poor people.
85 percent come from middle class areas. Anyone can goto college and not have to join the military. Alot of the people I knew where patriotic that is why they joined.

They don't have to. They have money for college. A lot of people join the military for this reason. They don't have to defend this country(daddy has connections). I wish there was some way they could be made to.
