It's not absolutely positively a must have, but you really, really need the heater and the filter would certainly be a very smart move.

Bettas do need temperatures in at least the mid 70's to do well and the filter will help keep the tank much cleaner. I would say though buy a very small filter if all you are going to have is one betta. The betta doesn't really do well in strong currents like a big filter would create.

It isn't absolutely necessary, but it is preferable. Unless you want to physically clean the tank every 10 days to 2 weeks, a filter will keep the tank clean. A heater is not necessary unless your home stays on the cool side. Betas like the water around 70 degrees or so. Another good idea is to try having live plants in the tank to help keep it clean. Betas are very very easy to handle. I have had them for many years and I have found that one philosophy that is always true is this: A hungry fish is a healthy fish. I feed mine every other day. When I fed them every day, they did not live as long. The food manufacturers tell you to feed them once or twice a day, but they are only trying to sell the food. Enjoy your Beta [aka Siamese Fighting Fish...so don't put more than one male in the same tank.. it WON'T be pretty]

From all the research I have done on these fish, I would say if the temp in the tank flucuates too much, then it may stress your betta. My fish was in a 1 gal tank. I quickly got him a 5 gal, he LOVES it. I wish I had room for another tank, I would get another betta! I love the filter for my own use. Makes it easier to clean. I personally think you should get a heater and a filter.

Tank is somewhat too small for algae ingesting fish, exceptionally elementary Plecostomus. I even have one that's some foot long interior the tank beside me. An Apple snail could be high-quality, Ghost Shrimp are in many circumstances ok and likewise eat algae, As for different fish. in line with danger some platies. they're comparable sized, yet do no longer choose a school. so which you would be able to upload 2, 3 or 4 of them on your tank. Smaller education fish can paintings too, like Neon Tetra sized. some million" person length, so which you would be able to save a small college in a 10 gal. Ian

Bettas can be happy is wide range of temperature from 65-80 degrees. Many people will try to tell you that you should keep your betta in a tiny bowl, while they can live there they are not happy and won't live that long. I find my Bettas loved being in 2g tanks and up. I did learn that each betta seems to like a different ammount of space. I have a collection of tanks from 2g to 5g with bettas and only 1 has a heater. That fish wouldn't eat till I got the water 80 degrees, he wasn't happy with 74. You should also look into a nice live plant, java ferns are good.

All fish need filtration, a constant temperature and water changes.
Get a 50 watt heater and a small Lee's Triple Flow corner filter with media.

I have had lots of betta's they are my favorite pretty to look at and very very easy to take care of.

No, you do not need a heater for this kind of fish and I had a filter in my tank for mine and he absolutely hated it. It really bothered him for some reason and I took it out and he was a happy fish then.

Why are u putting him in such a huge tank ? Really for a betta you dont need a tank that big for him they are more comfortable in smaller tanks.

I have mine in like for one fish not a bowl but a small tank . I change the water about once every three weeks or so and since I live in the city I put in a little Start Clean or something like that , that takes out the minerals and things like that from the water.

Also I put in them fake seaweed things so he has a place to hide if he wants to.

I hope you are not putting your Betta in with other fish because your other fish will attack it and dont put Betta's together unless its breeding time they will fight

Filters don't seem to be good for betas based on my experience. However, since these fish are tropical a heater might be necessary to keep the temperature high enough.

Yes you should have a filter and a heater, but you only need a small tank if you are keeping it by itself.

Not for a Beta, you may want to have a filter keeps the tank cleaner and dispenses more oxygen through the water. Adding a heater is not usually required for betas, but wont hurt, it will actually make your fish grow bigger.
