I am going to move to Boston. I would work in St. Elizabeth hospital (736 Cambridge str) in Brighton. I am looking for a nice 1 bed room for me. Which areas are safest near this hospital. I have a car and 10 -12 min drive is OK.

I live in Brighton right near there and it's a nice area. Brookline is also nice, or Watertown or Cambridge.

In addtiont to Brighton, I would say Newton,Watertown, Brookline. I would suggest maybe taking a trip here to check out the different areas b4 making your decision on which area to live.. This way you get a better idea of the areas, espcially the parking. I will tell you this, parking in Brighton is rather scares unless you have residential sticker, and even then, you may have trouble finding a spot. I lived there, went to school there, and I worked there. Overall though it's a great place. Close to restaurants, the bus line and the undergrond trains that go into Downtown.

If you have a car and you're into safety try Belmont. Small town, extremely safe. Surburban, though only 20 minutes or so to boston and right next to cambridge. Very "T" friendley...a bunch of buses and the commuter rail. If not this than Newton.

Brighton and Newton are both very safe, student-like area's, so rent is reasonable. Somerville is very popular, reasonable rents, and safe. You could also go slightly west, to Natick, which is nice. Or south, to Canton, Milton, or Quincy, which would be slightly longer drives.

Really, there are very few area's around there that would be deemed "unsafe". The area's that used to be unsafe in years past (Jamaica Plain, Charlestown) are now yuppie friendly! There are a few dodgy spots down around Mass General, and in Roxbury, but otherwise you will be fine in that area.
