It will save space on the hard drive but it will slow the computer little bit because when click to open site the computer goes to the site and opens it but if you have that site in history the computer will open it faster.

The amount of space taken up by the actual "history" is tiny. About the same as an mp3 music file. So deleting the history to save space is pointless. The only reason to clear the history would be to get rid of the list of websites you have visited.

Besides the "history" (which is just a list of web sites you have visited) your computer also saves a copy of each of those web sites on your computer. That is called the "cache" (pronounced "cash"). The cache does take up space, so you can free up the space by deleting the cache. (However, the next time you go to the Internet, the cache is recreated, so the space will be quickly reused).

A more important reason to clear the cache is because Internet Explorer, rather then re-downloading a web page, will display the version of it that it has saved on the hard drive. This can keep you from seeing the latest updates on the web site, and may keep some interactive things from working correctly.

So you want to occasionally clear the cache. In Internet Explorer, click on Tools in the menu and go to Internet Options. Click the button to "Delete Files". That will clear the cache. (If you also want to clear the history, you can do that at the same time).

It does save a very small amount of disk space and it may help protect your privacy if anyone else has access to your computer. But it is not usually vital to delete your history.
