No - I think his head was attracted by Materazzi's magnetic personality :-)
Of course he did and he deserved to be headbutted.
Just not on the field and not with my kids watching him on TV during the game of the year!!!!!

Yes, it was on purpose. It wasn't accidental but it wasn't premeditated either. It was an act of aggression as a reaction to what Materazzi said. Should Zidane have kept his cool instead of head-butting Materazzi? Yes, he should have.
Check out this article (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/worldcup2006/storyview.html?/story/sports/national/2006/07/09/zindane-france-ejected.html) where it says: Zidane's actions were clearly intentional and after a brief consultation with his assistants, Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo showed the Frenchman the red card that effectively ended his brilliant career.
That being said, Zidane is still one of the greatest football players in the world.

ZIdane was provoked by Matterazi , who as u know,is famous for his dirty mouth and antics than his play.Wht else can a gentleman like ZIdane do wen his sick mom and only sis was insulted by a scoundrel???Of course Zidane had to retaliate and by his headbutt my respect has increased for Zidane.I think tht headbutting was the way Zidane could retaliate & giv Materazzi wht he deserved.Zidane came frm a poor family where his mom looked after him so well and encouraged him to reach heights only ppl like us can dream of.My hero Zidane only protected his sis and mom's dignity.
Long live Zidane.U career mite hav ended with a red card but for millions like me, ur red card is a symbol of how good a human and how great a player u r.Of course ur memories on the field will be cherished by us for over.God bless u, Zidane!

Interesting question. The media says that Materazzi provoked Zidane by bad-mouthing him about his family but I think it was a plot by Zidane to gain media attention.

ya. i am personnaly a fan of the italian team. i think it did matter. as much as i don't like to say it i belive had he not done that they would have made all of thier pks and possibly would have won. i don't think he had it planned i just think Materazzi made some stupid remarks that made him mad.
