What is a real American to me? Someone who is diverse and any race, color and orgin. But now is happy to be and American citizen. Not especially over educated but has a desire to learn.
Wether he goes in the military or not he is a true American.
A real American allows for freedom of religon, speech and is neither racist or trys to control others.
He enjoys others diverse religions and cultures.
Also, knows to get ahead he gets a good education and then a good job. Saves his money and buys a house or a car.
Has a good work ethic. They do look down on people who won't work. Admire people who work hard and pay their bills.
Even if they are poor, if that job what ever it is pays the bills.
They respect them. That is just in their culture to admire hard workers. From the miners to the farmers to the ranchers to the factory worker to the janitor. If he does his job he is admired and respected.

Anyone born here, or gets 'adopted in', is a real American...
I'm not rich, not Christian, not all of European descent, educated but not in the highest degrees, no military involvement...but if I'm not 'real' then what am I...?

All "real Americans" are foreign born. Most of us came to this country searching for freedom, land, riches...and those who were brought here forcibly stayed because they also wanted the same things. (and they couldn'e afford passage back "home"). Real Americans are a diverse people who work hard and take pride in themselves and their accomplishments. We are fun-loving, God-fearing people who will fight to the death for our ideas of freedom and liberty and justice or injustice.

I think a real American is one who loves and takes pride in this country, whether they're black or white, asian, or hispanic or eduacated or poor. Yes I think foreign born citizens are real Americans also.

My first thought was Indians. But then I thought, wait, they came from China through Alaska... so my final answer is anyone who has had at least 4 generations of parents and grandparents born in America.
