I just rented a brand new condo (built this year) with two guys. I have the master bedroom and there is a cable jack in my room. However in the other two bedrooms there aren't. The only other cable jack is in the Family room.

We asked our landlord and it looks like they made a mistake when they built our condo. However, our landlord is saying that we are responsible for paying for a cable jack to be installed into each of the other bedrooms.

Is this true or is our landlord just cheap? I mean our condo was built in 2007 and my friend has a cable jack in each bedroom and her aparment building is at least 60 years old.

No, It's a luxury not a requirement, It wouldn't be hard to add them but then again if you're renting you have to ask for permission to add them first......lol....Ironic huh

I would assume that when you moved in at that time you were renting it the way it was, as-is. If the landlord said that you would get a cable jack in each bedroom then that is a different story, and he/she should pay for the cable jack. Usually a cable company will install wires into a wall for a small charge if you already have the cable service.
If i were you i'd go ahead and pay for the cable jacks myself. In our area the owner of the home/townhome is the one who can only authorize wiring/re-wiring of cable jacks so make sure you get it set up by your landlord otherwise the cable company might come out and not do the work, ultimately wasting your time. That happened to me once.

the reason that A 60 year old place is wired is because some where along the line the old tenets paid to get the cable in every room .if i wre u i would look for somebody to do it on the side .if the condo was advertised with cable .it didn't say in every room .just a hot spot

You should sue. It is your right, under the National Cable Act of 1992, to have a cable jack installed in every room of your dwelling. Only 2 cable jacks in one place is ridiculous! That landlord is just cheap and trying to break the law.

No it is not a "Law" to have the jacks in the rooms, The only thing that the law requires is all safety measures i.e (Railings,GFC Recepticals around sinks and baths etc.)
It is considered a luxery like A/C,
Sorry but i think you will have to install the cable/telephone wiring yourself.
Do not take my word for law, I have just seen a lot of problems renters have had including myself.

There is no requirement in the UBC (Uniform Building Code) or the NEC (National Electric Code) that mandates any sort of cable/satellite connection be installed in new construction. The only requirements in the code specify HOW they are installed.

Check some of the other apartments... if they have them, then the builder should come back or pay the telephone company. If all of the apartments are like yours, then that was the contract most likely...
