Dara O'Brian, the comedian who presents BBC 2's 'Mock the Week', asks the crowd almost this exact question on his DVD 'Live at the Theatre Royal'. He jokes about how many people attempt to sum up the personality of whole nations in two words and then proceeds to ask the 2,500 people in the audience how they'd sum up different nations. For example, when he asks about the French they all say 'smelly' and 'arrogant'.
When he asks about America they all shout 'fat' and 'stupid'.
Unfortunately this view isn't confined to comedy, though a lot of people appreciate that individual Americans may not fit into this mould - the view the rest of the world get of the US as a whole pretty much conforms to it. For 'fat' we have McDonalds, Burger King and all the other franchises that America has exported. And who needs anything more evidence for 'stupid' than George Bush, the leader of your country.
Sadly America is out of touch with most of the rest of the world - and though this may not be true to a man of its citizens, it is the generally held view.

As an American, I don't really give two hoots what other people think about us. There are many Americans who don't even deserve to live here. They hate it so bad but still choose to live here. Hypocrites of the worst kind.

It depends who you ask. People from England, Germany and most Europeans like us (except the French, they don't like anyone!). Asians as well. In the Middle East - Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emerates, Kuwait...Other Middle Eastern countries are questionable, or they do not trust us. Other than that does it really matter, we are here - at home. If they do like us, hey come on over and if they don't - let 'em stay where they are.

I know that many Europeans don't like us because of President George W. Bush. When I went to Greece and Macedonia they didn't really like me at all since I was American.
