Let me know if you think this belongs in another category. An aging father is worried he will go senile and marry an anna nicole type wh0re. Could he have some sort of irrevocable power of attorney given to his offspring to prevent or nullify such a thing?

This would be difficult since the courts would first have to prove him incompetent at the time of the actual marriage. This is not exactly easy to do and the fact remains that ultimately this would be his decision. What you could do it set up power of attorney for his personal care and set up also a living will. This would make a close trusted relative responsible for any health decision if he were to be incapacited by stroke, illness etc. and unable to make these decisions on his own.
The living will would be something that would be a good idea to go over with him and everyone should have one in place.
It goes through step by step what interventions you would want if you were to be rendered unable to make these decisions on your own. Whether and what kind of heroics, whether you want to be ventilated, iv's or just comfort measures. This is a good idea because it doesn't leave the family guessing and afraid to make a mistake when the directions are there and clear. it also helps when there is a large family with conflicting opinions with what should be done.
The other thing to do is called estate planning. This would put your father's assets in both his name and his childrens so that when he died the would not be inheritance taxes and the estate would be divided up without a lot of arguing.
I have witnessed the worst and best of human behaviour around a deathbead and estate planning and Advanced directives are the only way to make this a peaceful transition for all involved.

A Power of attorney can't keep him from getting married to anybody..but it will give anyone he designates the right to sign for him if he becomes unable to take care of himself. There are different types of POA's. Durable is one of the best.

He could give power of attorney BUT if he can find someone to certify him as mentally capable he could withdraw it at any time.
