Today at Macy's I got my granddaughter 6 shirts and 2 pairs of pants for $26.00. (she's 2). I always add up the regular price ($110.00) and say, wow, I saved $74.00. My husband always says, look how much you would have saved if you hadn't bought anything. He's not serious (too much), but how do you see it?

OMG, my husband is a finance guru and he laughs when I do and say the same! He always says that spending money is not saving money! Must be a guy thing, or a gal thing depending on point of view. Of course I disagree with him!
What a hoot!

In my opinion, the only way you saved $84 is if you were going to buy them anyway, and you were going to spend $110. If you were going to buy your granddaughter 6 shirts and 2 pair of pants and had budgeted $75 dollars and you spent $26, then you saved $49. If you were going to buy her two outfits and budgeted $26, then you got 4 shirts "for free." However, if you hadn't planned to buy her anything and you bought her $26 worth of clothing, then you didn't save a dollar.

What you did do, no matter what you spent, is provide clothing for your granddaughter for which her parents did not have to pay. Unless she has so much clothing that she'll never wear it all until she's too big for it to fit her, you did a very nice thing for her and her parents.

(BTW, $110 - $26 = $84)

I agree with your husband if your granddaughter didn't need it you didn't save anything you just wasted 26.00.But on the other hand thats a great price for six shirts and two pairs of pants.

It depends upon whether what you bought was really needed or not. If you had planned to buy clothes for you graddaughter, it was a great buy and you saved. If you had no intentions of buying clothes but saw the sale, then you lost money.

If the clothes were on sale and a good quality and I say you saved that much especially if they were needed.
