I just got my first "job" so to speak to re-design an artists website. I'm proficient with strict html, xhtml, and css. My client is in california while i'm in memphis.

Is there anything i need to know about working for clients?

With any project for a client, it is very important to be as clear as possible at the beginning what is to be done. There should be a clear list of deliverables that you both agree on. Basically a good checklist that is measurable--nothing too fuzzy, like "some kind of message board" or "the page should incorporate some Flash stuff".

Granted you don't want to scare the client off, but try and nail down as many details as possible before you get started with any coding and be open with the client throuout the process... if you can provide some sketches or dummy pages along the way, it will probably help the final product. The worst case scenario would be spending countless hours perfecting the site and then showing the client who end up hating it.

Be clear, listen and iron out as much detail as possible in the beginning! Good luck!

YES! Keep in mind that a website for your client is an extension of the business. You should examine the business's other forms of advertising and the business itself to ensure that your design is in keeping with the already established corporate image.

Proper design should enhance or validate the corporate image.
