You might just feel like you can't connect to people. There is nothing wrong with you. You may feel uncomfortable because you said "i love you" to someone and then something bad happened to them like they died. Another reason could be you don't feel like you can express the feeling back and that makes you feel queasy. Hang in there! Talking to a psychiatrist could really help you find the root of your problem or maybe it will grow on you over time. If there is someone who you don't feel unconfortable around when they say "i love you" try to see what makes them different. Hope this helps!

It puts pressure on you, and you feel obligated.
It's also something best "shown" (by gestures, gifts, smiles, etc) and not said, because it can be meaningless or said as a joke, or may just mean "like" instead of love.
It's also something you want the person you love to say to you---often that doesn't happen, so it's irritating when someone else says it freely.

Because most people who say "I love you", say it to make themselves feel better. It doesn't have much to do with YOU. Consequently, you probably feel uncomfortable because, deep down inside, you know they are being inauthentic. You probably sense that all they want from you is for you to say something stupid, superficial, bland, blahblahblah.....just to get them off the hook. You probably know, or you sense in your heart, that the "I-Love-You" they tell you isn't worth the time it took them to say it..............and you dont know what to do about it. That might make ANYone uncomfortable.

Because you cannot reciprocate. That's ok, you are not required to have feelings for everyone but you can treat everyone with sweet consideration. So go for it.
Also there are some who will tell you it is better to be loved than to love. Hey

You probably have a different view of love than some others.
Most young men would run a mile or two before saying it.

I feel the same way when it's not a family member.
I think it's because we're not used to others saying it and we don't know exactly on what level they mean it on and even if they do mean it.

Because you don't believe it, because you are not so sure you are loveable. Why? Because you are not convinced that you even love yourself.
The more you love yourself, the easier it is to truly (not artificially) accept love from others.

Maybe, like me, you spend many years on the outside looking in.

It's because it means something more to you than what you know the other person is actually meaning.
