The width of a swimming pool is 18.5 ft, and the length is 10.75 ft. Write the ratio of length to width as ratio of whole numbers.

to get to whole numbers you need a constant to multiply to the non-whole number and get it whole. If that constant does not get the other number whole you will need to get a contact for that number.
It will take 4 times the .75 to get it to a whole number.
Lucky that 4 time the .5 also get a whole number.
So multiply both numbers by 4.
The ratio of L to W is 10.75*4 / 18.5*4
The ratio is 43 to 66.
Notice the problem makes the width longer than the length, so make sure you have 43/66 and not 66/43

Both answers so far had the right idea, but both also included careless errors.

Width/Length = 10.75/18.5 = 43/74.

So the ratio is 43::74

18.5/10.75 = 74/43
Multiply by 4
