I'd think that I was overlooking something and they really aren't "exactly" alike.

I guess that depends... are they from the same store? Are they on the internet? Is one new, one used? A difference in model number would tell me that they do not in fact contain the same components... one probably has more upgraded components even if it is from the same company (for instance, maybe one has a piece of hardware version 4.1 but the other has the "same" piece of hardware version 4.1.1, which can be a big difference). I would suggest doing a little more homework... but if they are in fact the same exact machine..... then buy the cheaper one before someone else does!

Many companies do that on purpose. There's a name for it (which escapes me) but basically one reseller will have one model while another reseller has a different model.

This allows the resellers to avoid price matching wars because they say they'll match the "same exact product." If you can't get that model anywhere else, they don't have to worry about it.

You see this mostly with electronic devices, but also with appliances too.
