All the drugs, alcohol, promiscuity. After all, lots of people suffer in childhood. Is that any excuse? Still, I think she did love Forrest through it all.

I think something happened in her childhood. Don't you remember how they threw rocks at her old house at the end of the movie? The lifestyle she chose to live the Hippy generation and all didn't help matters any. But in my opinion..she did love Forrest. She just didn't want to conform to his lifestyle..and then when she got sick with Aids..she had to have someone to leave her son with..so she gave him to his father...Forrest.

i do believe that if i was raped and beaten on a consistent basis by my father I would certainly be just a little bit off my rocker.....drugs, alcohol and promiscuity are some of the most common ways of dealing with problems and you almost can't blame Jenny for doing those things....It didn't help that she went through all that during a time when hard psychedelic drugs and the sexual revolution were going on.

Having been abused by her dad as a child, and with the hippie movement coming in (sex, drugs, rock n roll), she was very messed up. I also believe that she always cared for Forrest.
Did you forget that she killed the dude who beat her up, and that she threw rocks at the house where she lived as a child--it shows her anger--and that her whole life could have been different if not for those things.

could be a problem with childhood or teenage happenings, some people are products of their environment and people are vulnerable, some people get by that & can change, for some drugs are their escape, it takes someone who loves them to help them through, others grow up and can take responsibility for their actions and can change...some people need help from a loved one to change & make it through hard times

She was acting out trying to recreate her life after leaving her father. Many people do the same thing.

she was so messed up because she had that liberal disease, but forest had the cure, yet she refused it until it was too late....and the moral of the story is morals....?? actually the producer cut too much of the biased intent for the movie to make sense..(true story);-)
