One of the things I have noticed, while trying to understand why many conservatives continue to believe in myths about WMD, Iraq/al Qaeda, and the nature of the Iranian "threat", is that these problems are only the tip of the iceberg.

There is a whole fake history book full of non-facts that they have repeated to each other enough times that they believe them to be true in the face of all facts, reason, and evidence.

Things like:

-Stalin is responsible for more deaths than Hitler
-Nazism was a left-wing movement
-America's founding fathers were Christian fundamentalists
-The US is responsible for the Cambodian genocide
-Clinton caused 9/11

Where do they get these preposterous ideas? Is this part of their campaign again the "liberal mainstream media"? Are they also campaigning against "liberal mainstream reality"? Remember what the Nazis (those dirty hippies LOL) used to say about the "Big Lie".

patriotic, people who believe Bush orchestrated 9/11 are just as crazy, and admittedly they are more likely to be on the left. However, I think that is an isolated case.

HereIam - you read the book, you tell us. Which founding father was a Christian fundamentalist?

Michael E - your refusal to accept the scientific consensus about global warming is a perfect example of what I am talking about.

just the facts, you are one of the rational ones, so I apologize if you feel offended by my post. However, if you think I am off the mark, you need to pay closer attention to what other conservatives say.

NoLeftTurn, you are almost one of the rational ones too. But you blame Stalin for a famine, and fail to blame Hitler for starting WW2 (with 40+ million dead)????

I've noticed the same thing. They live in their own little world and lack a coherent analysis of historical political events. I suspect that behind the propaganda that they eagerly believe is the fact that a coherent political analysis of historical events would discredit capitalism and its accompanying right-wing politics. Additionally, members of this group seem to willingly fall prey to right-wing propagandists whom they quickly deify and who, at that point, can say or do no wrong.

Dr. Carl Sagan offers up an interesting analysis, in a cordial manner, in his series Cosmos. He suggests that a faction of the public depends upon the reptilian section of the brain. The reptilian brain is the primitive brain that is responsible for fear, aggression and the willingness to follow leaders blindly. But others in society depend more upon the higher brain functions of the cerebral cortex which is responsible for reasoning and intellectual thought.

I'm glad you got time to tell us some of the things that conservatives are wrong about. The fact of the matter is that Stalin is responsible for so many deaths that he can be put in the same class as Hitler. So what if Hitler caused more? Stalin is close to him. Nazism was an evil movement whether it was left wing or not. It is in the same class as the Islamic extremist movement. Basically America's founding fathers WERE Christian fundamentalists. Take your head out and look at all the references to God in the constitution. You got us there. The US was not responsible for the Cambodian genocide. It was the left wing radicals like Jane Fonda and that kind of ilk. Clinton may not be TOTALLY responsible for 9/11 but he certainly had a major contribution. For you to make statements that these ideas or preposterous is, in fact, preposterous. Disprove them with facts from somewhere other than a left wing blog. Just because you SAY something DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS FACT. That's one thing you 0 negative bleeding heart left wing radicals need to understand.

Now, I don't know anything about the Cambodian genocide, but I can attempt to explain the other 4:

-Stalin killed more people than Hitler.
This is, in fact, true. Hitler killed 11 million people - 6 million Jews and 5 million others. Stalin killed 1.5 million in executions, 5 million in gulags, 1.7 million during deportations, 1 million German POWs and civilians, and 6 to 8 million in the 1932-33 famine, or a grand total of 15 to 17 million people.

-Nazism was a left-wing movement.
This is a misunderstanding which stems from Nazism's placement on a 2-dimensional scale, like in the World's Smallest Political Quiz. While Hitler was a major violater of individual rights, he had moderate economic practices, meaning he was in the center.

-America's founding fathers were Christian fundamentalists.
This is a liberal misconception of what conservatives say. While many of the founding fathers were not Christian, most of them were, and although they envisioned a secular Government, they used many Christian ideas to help form the US. Remember, they did say that our Creator has endowed us with certain inalienable rights.

-Clinton caused 9/11.
Another liberal misconception of what conservatives know. Clinton did not cause 9/11, per se; however, he did not take the necessary steps to ensure that 9/11 did not occur.

You need to do some more research before you go spouting off stuff. The history books for the past 50 years have been leaving things out and construing them, this is from the liberals. Why don't you look into it. Go find a history book from back when, shortly after some of these older issues you have happened and you will see the truth. The founding fathers were Christian fundamentalists, they built this country around God and used the Bible as guidelines for laws. God is referred to 4 times in the Constitution alone and God is in EVERY SINGLE preamble that the states of the US have. There is a book published in the early 1900's that is all about the Christian beliefs of some of the founding fathers, its called "An American Bible". Why don't you actually do some research and read some of this stuff instead of believe whatever other liberals tell you, it will keep you from coming on here and revealing your ignorance. I'm a conservative but I do my research and form my own opinions. I don't even have time to go into the rest of the nonsense you mentioned.

ALL OF THEM, go read some history books. Your ignorance is now just annoying.

It always concerns me when the ill-informed quote garbage as fact, regardless of their political affiliations. I too have heard the idiocy you've mentioned. I'm also tired of hearing global warming is man-made, the WTC was an "inside" job, Bush stole the election, we're at war for oil, affordable health care is a right, socialism is the answer, the minimum wage helps the poor....it IS just so mind-boggling how far one can step away from the truth!!

Founding fathers-Quotes of James Madison

We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God. The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the laws of God upon which this Constitution is founded

We have common sense, that's all. Something the liberals don't have. Like President Bush orchestrating 9/11, give me a break and libs need to wake up before it's too late.

Isolated case??

Yes, it concerns me that so many people can be so self-defeating, so deluded and so satisfied with their own ignorance. They have come to rely on that "book of lies" in order to sustain their 'a priori' conclusions... which most of them have depended on all their lives, from which they derive their identities and for which they would suffer almost any fate.

It would be almost laudable...if it weren't so tragic.
