Amazingly all of those people answered and not one answered your question about WHY?
Historically the female of the species has been very selective with whom they sleep with (and hence theoretically make babies with). Will she and the babies be looked after with this guy? It is not too much of a challenge for a woman to find just anyone to sleep with her. The male, however, needed to spread his seed as far and wide as possible - to further his genes. It is challenging to find and convince a female to sleep with you as a man. Mind you this is all historically.
With the advent of reliable birth control, this whole principle was turned on its ear (and that was more than 40 years ago, so things move slowly). Instincts are hard to go against and many women still remain very selective with whom they mate. (Still others are seemingly not at all selective). As other respondants have pointed out, the standards are coming to middle for both genders...there is definitely less stigma associated to women than there used to be and there is more stigma associated to men then there used to be.

Exactly who says it is ok for men to sleep with a lot of women, but not for women to sleep with a lot of men. Neither one is a particularily good idea - especially given the incidence of STDs.

No, It's not OK for men to slut around. Just avoid such lowlifes. go for a more dignified type of man. They exist and are waiting for quality women. Perhaps you.
I'm a guy and NEVER agreed with the double standard. Never will.

In my mind I don't think I would like a man or a woman who slept around. I like to have one partner and stick with them long term. I also don't think there is anything wrong with other people who like to sleep around, as long as their mate knows about it and is ok with it.

Double standards.
It can be because of religion. By the way, it's not okay for a man to have luxurious hygiene stuff like... uhh... bathing... with flower scent and stuff. yea. double standards. and stupid society expectations. they destroy anything alien to them.
