Per my friend's grandmother, they had to use rags in the 1930s, during the depression. She said they had to cut up towels, and that they had to wash and reuse them.

Fabric.....rags....and they would use them just for that.....for thqat time of the month...so that if they wee stained, it really wouldnt matter as long as they were clean. My mother told me this as she had lived on a farm and that is what her relatives did.

maybe the same type of materials they used for baby diapers before HUGGIES LOL like cloth napkins. all the good ol days.. I'd hate to do laundry back then. YUCK!
