i think the republican majority in the last 10 years have moved considerably to the right....... and right wing fundamentalists without a doubt influence its base!!!!!!
most republicans understand that moving too far to the right is not only bad for their own party and their chances of winning an election..... but also bad for America!!!!!!

Standing up to evil not trying to think you can make peace with people who are out to kill you.
Rather than have the government help the poor they do it themselves without government help since conservative Christians give more of their own time and money than liberals.
Doing the right thing when it is not popular any more.
