Doctor said I only had 6 months to live. What are some things I should do in the States before I die? Fun stuff.

I am so sorry, I hope your Doctor is wrong. I would read as much as possible about what it is that you are up against. I would try to eat as healthy a diet as possible. I would get a 2nd or 3rd opinion also. If it was a cancer that you are dealing with, I would call the cancer centers of america. They have them all over the United States. They are very up to date on all the current treatments available. If you don't want to keep trying medically, then no one can make you. Meditation may help you if you are in pain and I've also heard that acupuncture can be helpful with pain. If you have totally given up any hope that you have had, then I would try to live everyday to the fullest. Notice everything, the sky the trees, the animals, the breeze and use all of your senses to take in the beauty of our world. Don't miss even the smallest of things. Do the things that made you happy while everything was good in your life. If you have loved and were loved then remember it continually. Know that you won't be forgotten by the people in your life. Do things that you never dared to do before your illness. Things that seemed out of reach for you for whatever reason. How about seeing all the sites that makes this such a great nation. Have no regrets. Find a way and enjoy it completely. I hope you can find a way to enjoy every moment you have left. May it be longer than you expect.

Buy the movie The Secret and find out about how having fun and fostering a great PMA (positive mental attitude) just may cure your ills. Then watch it at least once per week because each time you watch, you'll capture new ideas and walk away with new lessons.

I have no doubt this is what I would do if in your situation. Infact, I am trying to do it already.

It sounds like you may have already resigned yourself to death. Why? Six months is a lot of time to possibly turn things around ... I've heard of recoveries happening in fewer than 3 months.

I am sorry to hear that...and pardon me if I'm a doubting Thomas, but few doctors wil give you a time limit like that...there is no clear medical way to predict something like that with most life-threatening diseases. My advice, if in fact this is true, is live every day for what you can learn from it; smile at people you don't know, tell people you love them, feel free to act like a child...wade through puddles, have the chocolate sundae, and the extra helping of whip cream, say you're sorry for past transgressions, visit the mountains, stand next to an ocean, watch children at play, play with some puppies....and finally volunteer to help someone sicker than yourself...give of yourself...it will be rewarding past your wildest dreams. God bless you.

What kind of doctor, and what condition, what is your age, where do you live?
All those things contribute to your diagnosis. I would first find a specialist in your disorder. See if there are any clinical trials going on.
Check out Mayo Clinic, Sloan Kettering, U of Chicago. All specialize in terminal illness. What you should do depends on how mobile you are, where you live, how much money you can afford. I can't believe a doctor would just turn you loose to fend for yourself. Write me back with more details, and I may have more suggestions. ewilke9137@aol.com

Hit up Vegas, see the Grand Canyon and yell into it, Ride horses, Paint something with balloons filled with paint on a big sheet canvas and pass it out as a raffle prize at your funeral. Wouldn't that be interesting? Check out Bourbon Street in New Orleans. But mostly, if you only have 6 months to live, spend time with your closest friends and families...make your peace with all your enemies...and write a journal with a lot of the thoughts you might not get around to expressing to those who need to hear them. Legacy is everything, and you have plenty of time to leave one.

But, for the record, I don't believe you.

Somehow I don't think I believe you are going to die in six months. I just reviewed the questions that you are asking on "ANSWERS". The majority of them are connected with moving to Canada. There is not another about health.

I would think that one of the things to do is find out about what ever you have. I have met a number of people in your "so called" position and all, I mean all, except you start off with what ever the desease is.

Tell us a little more.

Are you serious? What a bummer! You could get a travel magazine and start checking things off that look interesting. There are even mags like "Budget Travel" if $$ is an issue. Mostly, though, these trips are not too much of anything if you don't do them with the people that you love. Enjoy, best of luck in your passing, send good vibes from the other side, tell us what it is like and if the religion debate is valid...k?

Sit down and make a list Do you have any hobbies Is there a place you've always wanted to see: Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, New York City, The Great Lakes, the ocean
Are there people you want to talk to, maybe people you want to forgive or have forgive you?
You might also want to spend some time preparing yourself for the big journey
