da is slang, omg is also slang, and i've used $30 before. usually it's frowned upon in papers and books and articles if you take the short easy way out. it would only take 5 more seconds to write "The girl said 'Oh my gosh' when the homework was assigned" as opposed to "Da grl said OMG when da hmwrk was assigned".

There is nothing inherently wrong with any of these expressions when used in the right setting. If you are text messaging a friend or chatting with classmates, slang and non-standard expressions are fine. However, they are not usually acceptable in formal writing or speech. Teachers and professors teach us formal writing and speech because the formal method is acceptable everywhere and understood by all. Slang often confuses those not in the know. The use of slang in formal writing and speech usually labels you as being not as good as someone who uses more formal writing and speech--it often makes you seem less than you probably are. That is, a potential boss might fail to hire you if you use lots of slang during a job interview.

Those are slang terms. While they are commonly used they are not grammatically correct. If you are texting or emailing a friend, they're fine. If you are writing a research paper for your English class or a letter to your boss, they are not.
