I have a 10 1/2 month old son and I am looking for some foods for him to start off with. I am looking for something fairly easy so on night when we just want a sandwich, he can have something that is good for him. He gags on some things when I try to give them to him.

I give my son a lot of fruits, bananas, mango, sliced apples and steamed veggies, broccoli cauliflower, green beans. All very easy to chew and swallow. I also make my own dressing so it does not have a lot of seasoning and it is easy to eat as well as sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes. I enjoy making my own food because you now exactly whats going in it, its cheaper, and it can be made and frozen ahead of time!

Applesauce, pureed fruit and puddings are good for starters cuz they actually taste decent. The fruits are better from a health standpoint. If you're gonna use baby food, taste it yourself first, and you'll be able to predict your son's reaction. Some baby food is just plain nasty tasting, cuz it's so bland. He'll let you know in no uncertain terms what he likes and dislikes. My kids and grandbabies loved to eat bananas, cut in small pieces of course. Since he's not used to solid foods, be sure to keep a close eye on him to he doesn't try to put too much in his mouth at once. Don't want the little feller to choke or gag.
Enjoy him while he's little, cuz they grow up too fast!

Have you tried some foods that he does like and add to them. Ex. if there's a specific baby food that he really enjoys, try adding pieces of rice to it or small pieces of potatoes. Or give them on their own. Does he eat bread/toast? On the nights that you want your sandwich, give him a sandwich but not all together. Give him a piece of toast, give him small pieces of lunch meat or ham pieces, small pieces of cheese and some small pieces of bananas. Think of small pickniks when it comes to little ones. Does he like soups with soda crackers?

If you've tried kraft dinner style dinner with him, add some of his baby food (stage 1 or 2) that has meat in it and mix together. The cheese will hide the flavor of the baby food. This works for my picky 3 year old and she doesn't know it.
Good luck

Any steamed veggies, or whole wheat pasta.

I buy crackers for my son for when im being lazy :) I make sure and get whole wheat, unenriched.

Fruits are always good... avacados? Bananas?

What does he gag on? Gagging is pretty normal for babies, and they typically work it our on thier own. Thier gag reflex is closer to thier lips than ours.
