I'm going to be 14 weeks tomorrow. I am 5'5 and 112lbs. Very slender. Last sunday, 13 weeks; I felt my baby move. It wasn't like what everyone says it feels like though. It was a poping sensation. like popcorn poping. It was low in my abdomen. It was not gas, I know that feeling because I have gas constantly in my pregnancy. Plus my tummy usually hurts with gas, or I will have bubbles in my stomach. This feeling was no where near that. I haven't felt the poping sensation again since then. Is that normal? Like it's almost been a week and I haven't felt anything again. Are the movements that you can feel really that far apart in early pregnancy?

I don't want to disappoint you, but my OB/gyn {21 years of experiences} said it was impossible to feel fetal movement before 17 weeks {and in the first pregnancy it is more like 20 weeks}. At 14 weeks the fetus is not even 2 oz, it is too little to feel it.

I did a little research - so women all over the world can feel first fetal movements from 17 weeks up, except for americans that are of course forward and feel it much earlier... yeah, right. I looked at french, czech and slovak websites, but since you probably don't know any of the languages, there are some links to american websites...

--That is BS.. The fact is most females don't know what they are feeling, most confusing it with gas.. Maybe you don't need to take everything your OB says to heart..

--Anyway--

I am a small person too.. 5'2" and "was" 106 lbs.. Just wait till about 28 weeks.. When the baby moves, your whole stomach will shift.. And the best part is getting kicked in the ribs! HaHa.. I am 34 weeks now and it sucks! Especially when the little feet start sticking out of your side.. I don't know if being small makes this more noticable, but it is definately an experience!

I know exactly what you mean. I told my student midwife about it at my 14 week appointment, and she didn't really believe me. I was kinda disappointed in her, but she is just a student and going by the book, not experience. Anyways, I only felt if sporadically for a week or 2. I am 17 weeks now and feel it almost daily, but it is very light still, and sometimes hard to feel. If you poke around your belly you should be able to feel the baby's position soon. Its really neat. I think that the baby might have given me my first big boot tonight, but I was in the process of sitting down, so I am not sure if it was the baby or how I moved. Congratulations.

I was 5'3 and 110 pre-pregnancy. The same thing happened to me. At 13 weeks, I felt a popping sensation occasionally. A few weeks later, they were definitely kicks and he hasn't stopped since. I also hear that slender people feel movement sooner than others. My friend is also pregnant right now and she didn't even feel movement until she was almost 7 months pregnant.

32 weeks. 8 more to go.

It is very possible that it was your baby rolling around and kicking. Doctors claim that a woman of a slender build may feel movement much earlier than most, due to their size. Baby movements that are more pronounced tend to be rather scattered during the early stages, it's nothing to be too concerned about. As the baby gets larger you feel it more often and with a bit more force.

Yes that is normal. I just had my first two months ago and at first when i felt her she was very lite and coudlnt feel them often but the farther you are the more you should watch the movements. She/he should lose lose activity the future u get and if you do notice less call your doctor. Is this your first by the way. By the way watch the weight . I gained 62 lbs with my baby and i weighed 115. My baby was only 8lbs 3ozs ans two weeks late so watch out

Very normal for the movements to be spaced out like that. The baby is really small still and does a lot of moving that you won't be able to feel. Congrats on feeling your first movement.

Congratulations! when you first notice your baby's movements they tend to be very sporadic, given all the room they have to float around in, when I was pregnant with all my children I noticed if they kicked towards my back I was not as likely to feel it. Once your baby is around 20 weeks though you should start monitoring its movements, and if you ever suspect anything is not right, call your doctor, its agonizing to sit and worry, and feeling silly is a bad reason to possibly jeopardize your baby's well being. Best of luck!!!!!
