And why is numerology so ridiculed in the USA? is it because Americans have only a secular applied arithmetic notion of number? I have been studying and reading the Vedic books of DR. S K Kapoor , and am now convinced of and have glimpsed higher order intelligence fields and domains of Gods, but yet I find very little Americans with this understanding of mathematics but yet they are ready to ridicule any notion that numbers are no more than convient counters. Whats up?

Most people (with religious beliefs) in America assume that numerology is basically like fortune telling.

I think most Americans do have only a secular view of numbers and think of them only in their function. In other words, we only think of them in their usefulness, rather than attributing qualities to them.

I'm not exactly sure why this is--but I think it has to do with religion. Christian religions view numerology as a work of the devil (I suppose)---even though the Bible is full of numerological significance.

Interesting question..

I think nationalistic prejudices many times get in the way of information transfer. Most Americans involved in earning a living have little use for esoterica, although I'm sure you will find many Americans who think their view is more esoteric than the Indian view.

I've done more than a cursory study of numerology, and found it to be lacking. I believe a study of astrology, both geocentric and heliocentric, to be much more rewarding and useful.

I've heard of Vedic concepts a time or two since I've started with Answers, but no particulars.

Is this glimpse of higher order intelligence fields and domains the reason so many Indian students are drawn to Yahoo Answers? YA is better than having the even-numbered answers in the back of the book......nothing higher order about that.

Americans always have a very high opinion of themselves just 'cause they're rich and developed. The Indian view of math is definitely much better. In Yahoo!Answers USA, people flock with stupid questions burning 5 points over questions like:
x + 5 = 2x + 2. Find x
Factor x^2 + x - 42
and the sort. Some American 11th graders ask questions that can be answered correctly by Indian 7th - 9th graders!

Religion and education are usually kept separate, save for the religious schools. Plus, in predominantly Christian areas, any idea of numerology is frowned upon for religious reasons.

We don't consider voodoo to be a mathematical category.
