Do me a big favor. Throw the AOL disc as far as you can so that you do not have to come back here and ask "My AOL is not working right. HELP!!!"

Thanks

If you have a computer that has a cable modem and a dial up modem that is hooked up, then you can turn off the cable modem and use the dial up to access AOL using the free CD. If you want to be online using your high speed modem, then it needs to be on. I think you can still get some free AOL content via their site.

Not sure why you'd want to use dial up instead of your cable modem, but ....

It sounds like you might be trying to limit access. If the cable/dsl modem is off, well then, it's off and it can't access anything, no matter what.

AOL does allow its' service to be used if you "bring your own access," and they have a rate plan named the same. In AOL, go to keyword: billing. This of course will only work if the cable/dsl modem is on.

If there's a built-in telephone-based modem in your computer, as long as the line is plugged in and there's a phone number, username and password, then any traditional dial-up service can be used.

No.

The cable modem provides you access through your cable line. AOL dialup provides you connectivity through your phone line or through a TimeWarner cable connection.

The answer is...

...No!!

You must use your computer's own telephone modem to hook up to the internet using those methods, or get another 'surfboard' to enable high speed access.
