Mexican Football A Theory?

I have lived in Mexico for a few years and based on what I have picked up from the culture here I have developed a theory as to why Mexico seem to do badly in Football.
Fact is that Mexicans have a culture that is very family oriented of wich they are very proud but its here where I belive the problem lies in sport.
Every Mexican is mums special baby and therfore when the grow up they tend to exel in individual sports, not team sport because no Mexican boy is told he is normal and sould contribute to a greater good, they are told that they are very special. They will continue to do well in Boxing and throw up a lady golfer or athlete or two, but as for team games they will probably lag behind. Shame because they are passionate supporters.

my country isnt the USA Im English for cultural reasons we dont exactly perform well in Baseball and American football, culture is everything in sport, another country with a similer problem is Greece for years great spectators and they did win the Euro Cup so there is hope and if you actually read what I finnished with I said that it was a shame that Mexico underperformed with such passionate fans I will be all for El Tri In the Copa America (as always, not the world cup naturaly). As for the Italy point.well got me there well done but Euro culture is a little different to here.my credentials.I did spend some time at QPR in London not the biggest but we were in the premiership then as for the sub20 well Rooney and Walcott have England caps at 20 and 17 Hugo needs to use the youth in the full team IMHO

Three reasons why Mexicans are bad at football:
1- The reason you gave. They are very poor at most team games.
2- They are in the second-weakest conference (CONCACAF) in the world (after Oceania). A bit like Australia (though now they are in Asia this will change), they stroll through to the World Cup by playing exclusively against tiny, baseball-playing islands (St. Kitts and Nevis?) and small, disorganised Central American countries passionate about the game but without enough people to build a good team. When your strongest opponents throughout the qualifiers are the USA and Costa Rica, once you come up against real teams in the World Cup, you are obviously going to struggle.
3- All the 'team players' have long ago fled to the US. The individualists are too obsessed with themselves to work with anyone else and get out of the country.

that's an interesting theory, not to far from the truth, but you are wrong about Mexico soccer team, they only have good individual players.

So how come Italy have not beat Mexico in decades also Mexico beat Brazil in the confederations cup 05 with all the super players, and Dunga saying right now that Mexico has an advantage over them because Mexico has won more games between each other in the last couple of years?

Mexico has an excellent collective game, its not like European style that its more direct and have great individuality's. Mexico style is more strategic and work very good as a team, that's why many team don't like playing with Mexico because its hard to play them, they don't give to much spaces in the field and instead of dribbling a lot they advance as a team with collective soccer.

Its a matter of time before Mexico starts beating more European teams, after the world cup of Mexico 86 the team have been improving constantly, the Mexican league its getting better and more players are going to Europe, its like the US that after creating the mls in 94 they have improve a lot.
Its true Mexicans don't work very good as team, but soccer is different, its one of the things that they do work very good as a team.

I disagree because Argentinians are also very attached to their families (just like Mexicans) and they are one of the top football nations in the world, so I don't see your theory as being realistic. The same goes for Italians. I think the reason why Mexican football is so mediocre is that they are missing talent, they don't produce enough good players. Their best player is rafael marquez who is doing very badly right now at Barça and their best young prospect is a 19 years old who has never played in the first team of Barcelona. If you compare that to Brazilian or Argentinian players (Lionel Messi is 19 and he is one of the top 3 stars of Barcelona already), you can understand why Mexico is lagging far behind the major football nations.

You know what, In a way I think you've got something there. Mexico is not the best team out there, but I think a lot of it has to do with the macho attitudes of the males in Mexico. They dont take suggestions well. They are very closed minded and may not be accepting suggestions to improve their game. However, it is a very popular team because we Mexicans are very passionate about things and soccer is one of the major ones. If we win we are proud as can be and try to show that off to how ever many people we can. If we loose, we loose proudly and we make sure people understand that we know what we did wrong. I personally love el Tri (well I'm not to thrilled about the tecnico right now) and I will support them as long as they and I exist. VIVA MEXICO!! VIVA EL TRI!!! VIVA EL AMERICA!!!! Interesting! It could be many factors, socio-economical and educational issues basically. After your comment I recommend you to read "el laberinto de la soledad" by Octavio Paz (Mexican nobel prize), not only describes the Mexicans but the Americans and you will see how YOU ARE.

Not sticking for Mexicans, but they had the balls to keep the football as a beautiful sport and not changed it for a crappy stupid sport as American football (which is a mix from football & rugby).

Now after many years to be blind of what's going on in other countries and not playing a good soccer you bring Beckham to recover the wasted time.

Nancy, you're wrong! are you American? well then I'll ask you something, why did USA only score one goal in the world cup and had a terrible tournament?

Copa Oro and Copa America will take place this summer and USA will be host to Copa Oro, we'll see how far Mexico and USA go in both competitions. Just don't forget Mexico will always be superior to USA in soccer, they might lose in US territory but so does USA when they go to Azteca.

eh "canislupu.." w/e ur name is...concacaf is not the 2nd weakest. Weakest is obviously OFC, then AFC, then CAF, then CONCACAF, the Conmebol den UEFA...buh UEFA only has like 10, 12 teams that are good...the rest are like...Isreal? Armenia? Romania? comonnn Austria??? NORWAY??? comonnn many of the CONCACAF teams can beat them...expecially Mexico, who by the way is winning the U-20 World Cup, Copa America and Gold Cup.
