On the road. I try to be a courteous driver. I don't tailgate. I don't drive too slow. If some speedy guy is coming up behind me I move over to let him pass. I let people merge into the lane ahead of me. I get angry however when other people don't show the same respect! Most drivers don't let you merge, they tailgate you or drive to slow & don't get out of the way. It drives me nuts! If only more people were like me! Tee hee!

Showing respect just means treating people as you'd like to be treated. If I'm going into the mall, I hold the door open for the person coming behind me (especially if they're elderly or have kids etc). Others don't always do this. Sometimes I have doors slammed in my face! Or people don't thank me for holding the door! How rude? Do they think I'm just their personal door-holder?! Oh well. Anyway, those are a couple of examples...

I feel you donot have to look elsewhere , in the world. It is just around you. You have to look for it to recognise them.

1. One of the important pillars of a good marriage is respect ( the others are Love, Intimacy and Trust). If you are married or if you are in a family you can watch it everyday. Where the husband or the wife respects the other there is joy and peace and happiness in the family.

But , in such families you SEE only joy outside and you assume that they are happy because of something else. The root cause of their Joy is Mutual respect.

2. Respect , is like a coiled spring. You donot have to wait for someone to respect you. You unwind yourself and start giving respect to the others that you encounter. The shopkeeper, the person on the bank queue, the stranger in the library with you.... anyone. ...... You just respect and see how he/she starts to give the respect back to you.

I think it's about accommodating others without making a fuss about it?

What about when you notice that someone doesn't see things the same way? Like when you step quietly out of the path of a blind person, so you don't distract them from their goal?
Like when you speak up for a hard-of-hearing person? Like when you translate for someone who doesn't speak your language, or help someone out when they don't get slang or textspeak? Or when a bully tries to tell everyone that "No one does that!" and you say "People do, so what?" or change the subject and walk away quietly in conversation with the person they were targeting?

Or about saying I instead of You. Maybe some people respect what others say usually, but respect themselves and their friendship enough to call them on something if they compromise?

Just a few thoughts : )

When I work with a group, I am sure to listen to their wants and needs and accomadate to them when it's possible. I mainly respect their ideas and wants in hopes they will respect my own ideas in the future. I'd like to think the pay it foward system will make the world a better place, for me anyways.

Customer and bartender/bearer
son towards father
Inlwas towards daughter and sons in-law
neighbours
All these I have mentioned need a special attention as level of respect has always been low among them.

Courtesy is the expression of respect to others. There is always time for a little courtesy in the rush the day. Unless someone gives cause for disrespect, everyone is entitled to courtesy.
