No one lives in a true adobe home any longer due to them not meeting building codes. If someone does, it is unusual and generally not allowed in zoned areas of the U.S.

Now there are houses that use adobe as an exterior finish similar to stucco, but the house is usually a frame house with adobe applied as siding.

If you are looking for energy efficient buildings, it is something I have looked at for some time. I would recommend a couple of sites on the net.

Here is an unusual link. It is for a deep ribbed steel building, that you can put up yourself. I am looking at the possibility of using it as a rental structure. It is durable, cheap, maintenance free and metal keeps radiated heat inside in winter and outside in summer.
