You dont have any problem investing in Mexico, in real estate, just think about the major US corporations doing business in Mexico, like WalMart, Coke, Hotel Chains etc, the only thing its that if you want to buy near the beaches you have to buy making first a special trust.

Some of the best places to invest in Real Estate right now are in Panama! With Panama being the major shipping location it is, the expansion of the canal and with all of the people moving there from the US, Canada and Europe, you should seriously consider investing there. Also, you can buy real estate in Panama. I've heard you lease it in Mexico... for 90 + years but don't actually own it.

Panama also has a very stable government, no standing military (like Costa Rica) and makes billions of $$$ from the canal.

It's a great place to live and maybe buy, but not to "invest". You can get all sorts of promises even from american title companies but Mexico has a history of changing the laws. There are hundreds of stories of people being ripped off.

As far as TJ if it were a good place to invest, why do Mexicans who live there buy 2nd homes in the U.S. to make money?

Yes the last post is correct. Foreigners can buy property in Mexico. My family has owned a home in central Mexico for 20+ years. However, if you want to buy close to the coast you need to go through a special process. Constitutionally, foreigners are prohibited from owning coastal property. However, they can through a special trust buy property through a Mexican proxy.

Lots of US citizens live in Mexico - whole communities of them, in fact. As long as you do not say anything publicly against their government, you will likely have no problems. I'm serious about that, though. They do NOT have "free speech" like we do (especially for gringos). I know someone who was there legally, but got deported for leading a protest.
