Because television shows are just filler for commercials. The whole point of television has always been to advertise and sell, sell, sell! Networks could care less what's on tv as long as advertising companies will pay ridiculous amounts of money to put their commercials on for the 'key demographic'.

Because people aren't watching TV no more, they're watching YouTube, listening to iPods, and watching their fave shows and nothing else on their phones. People have allowed technology to take over.
