You're going to have a tough time getting her to like formula. Try to mix breastmilk with formula--slowly increase the percentage of formula until it's 100%.

Also, just starting with apple juice is fine. You still have three months to ween her off the bottle. Our doctor suggests staying away from juice because it's purely sugar, but if that's all she will take in her cups then use it for right now. Have you tried water?

Of course she won't take formula, it's yucky! I can't imagine why you would even want her to drink formula, particularly when you're already giving her something so much better. I can't in good conscience even try to answer that; that's like asking me how to entice my baby to fall down the stairs.

By the way, if she's drinking apple juice, she's not exclusively breastfed. "Exclusively" means that she is not getting any other food or drink (including water or juice). Just FYI.

You taste breastmilk, then formula, and ask yourself how dumb your child would have to be to drink it.

If you are continuing to breastfeed part time, so long as your daughter is nursing at least 5 times a day she is more then likely getting enough. That can be once in the morning (twice is better, once when you wake up once just before leave/when you drop her off) Once when you pick her up/get home, *before* dinner, before bed and once in the middle of the night.

So long as you brush her well teeth before bed breastmilk is not considered a risk for cavities. Breastmilk is actually protective against cavities, however if you have breastmilk and other sugars in the mouth then it is just as bad as anything else.

Then she can just drink water while you are at work and eat food and nutritionally she will be fine. Now introducing this much solid food may cause her to wean sooner, but not before 12 months. Babies under 12 months DO NOT self wean.

Find a sippy cup with a soft spout...that way it will feel 'familiar'. Nuby makes one that i used to transition my son. I think Gerber does also, but i used the Nuby brand name with success. Never could get my kids interested in a bottle-i breastfed all 3! P.S water down the apple juice, and if you do want her on formula, try to mix it w/ your breastmilk. Breastmilk is naturally sweet, especially compared to formula! Yuk! You can start cows milk at age one-whole milk.

She might not take it. Have you smelt that stuff? It stinks. I can't imagine it tasting very good. Why at 9 1/2 months would you want to switch her to formula? If its work related, could you pump?
