When I was a server I did that at times. The only reason I put it face down most the time is because they were handwritten checks so it looked better if I put it writing side down. Then they didn't have to stare at my chicken scratch while they were finishing their meal.

its not courage..its courtesy ..you know how much your bill will be you did order the food didn't you..its so a customer walking buy doesn't see your bill..nice rack..
