Both. You can fall in love unexpectedly. When you feel it you don't have much choice, but you can choose whether to act on it. Whether to give it a chance or walk away.

I fell in love quite unexpectedly. Perhaps it was my choice in a way because I put myself in a place where it might happen & I chose to pursue it, even though it terrified me to start a new relationship. He pursued me actually, but I let him. There was something between us from the start & we knew. I really had no choice. It wasn't chance though. It was fate that we met. So many things had to happen -- meeting my friend from work who convinced me to move to a new town where I became involved in the musical community where I met him, a fellow singer/songwriter. It was no accident. It was meant to be. But I could have walked away. I could have chosen a safe dull relationship rather than an exciting new one that scared me. I chose to take a chance & now so many wonderful things are happening as a result.

Falling in love is chance and physical chemistry. There are actually hormones in the brain that change when you are in love. Having said that though not everyone acts on those feelings so it becomes a choice.

"to be or not to be"

Falling in love is totally just something that happens unexpectedly. When I met my husband I had sworn off men and was just talking some time for myself and then it happened. I fell head over heels for him. You will know it when it hits you and then you can't stop thinking about that person.

The real fallacy is that people think it is falling like falling into a hole. Actually, your conscious choices are at work. If you decide you don't like short people, you cannot fall in love with one because you will not go near them. People who make bad choices like to blame them on fate but that is an excuse. Excuses are like rectal orifices, everybody has them and they all stink.

I think you have a good question. Are you questioning if you are in love? You should know. Remember you have to be able to communicate well with the person. You fall in love when it happens not when you want it. You will find that person or if you already have you cant stop thinking about them your concentration goes hay wire. But to find love is hard to really know what it is you will never question it. You will find it. Its more faith than anything. Good luck to you and God Bless.

Chance

Attraction isn't our choice, but we can control our emotions if we pay attention. I don't think we can choose to love someone if that feeling just isn't there...but we can choose not to. If we allow ourselves to fall in love (be open to it) it may well happen...if we do not desire to do so then we can surely control that and keep from feeling that emotion toward another.

If we aren't paying attention or thinking about it though, sometimes we'll just get hit in the face with it one day, that we love that person...we didn't feel it build or consciously think we wanted to love them...it just comes out of the blue because we didn't stop it.

It is not a choice! You usually "fall" for someone or you are pressured and want to be "in love" like all of your friends

Unlike Greeds stupid answer, Love does happen by chance/unexpectedly

I think it's both. I think if you aren't open to new experiences or other people you won't be able to allow yourself to feel the feelings that are involved with falling in love. I believe it can happen by chance and when we least expect it.
