I'm proud to be anti-war, and I seriously suspect the sanity of anyone who is "pro-war", don't you?

There are occasions when war is necessary, but
damned fewer than when wars are actually fought.

For instance, by the time the US declared war
on Japan, there really was no choice but for the
US to enter World War II.

Do I think the war could have been avoided before
then? Sure. However, that's clearly spilled milk.

Generally, diplomacy and trade end up being
far more permanent methods of inter-relating
between nations than wars could ever hope
to accomplish.

I think we're seeing the end of traditional wars
now anways. I think that terrorism, localized and
internationalized, will be the primary form of
war-like violence.

So ... am I anti war? Most people are anti-war except
when particular situations occur. I am less likely to
believe that war is a reasonable answer than most of
your likely answers, but I would certainly fight if
directly attacked.

That doesn't stop me from admiring the people who
put themselves in harms way in wars I don't believe in.

They are precious tools - its the dudes who wield the
tools that ya gotta worry about.

You can't be serious?

You pontificate that you "suspect the sanity" of people who would support a war effort?

I wonder how you'd feel if you were a Jew living in Poland in 1939 under Nazi occupation? What if you were a Kurd in Iraq under Saddam Hussein in 1988? How about a Muslim being "ethnically cleansed" in Bosnia in 1992? Perhaps if you were a woman living under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001?

How naive and out-of-touch can you be? Do you really believe that the wars that liberated these people were not "sane"?

Nobody "likes" war. Just because we choose to fight a war, it does not mean that we are "pro-war" or that we take some perverse glee in the atrocity of war. It does mean that we believe that the cause is just and the result is worth the sacrifice.

Grow up.

Being entirely pro-war or anti-war is bad. It's fine to oppose or support going to war but at least consider the circumstances. For example, if this country's fate was in danger, no one in their right mind would want us to idle and do nothing.

Anti-war = anti-freedom

No-one is 'pro-war'. We are for us and will defend our way of life all over the world so they don't destroy us. Israel is under the threat of annihilation and you want to sit down on your hands and surrender. You can't have it your way, it won't work. You can't live in Eden unless there is an army surrounding you to protect you from those who want your Eden. Insanity is something that I attribute to anti-war people. I would rather you were neutral on the subject than anti. War will never end in the world.

I don' think any truly thinking individual is Pro War, however some of realize that there are circumstances that can't be solved any other way. I just wish the decision to commit to hostilities wasn't made for political reasons(and for you Bush haters out there remember Somalia, Kosovo and Bosnia were dismal failures of the previous administration) but truly to protect us and our allies. This includes the defeat of dangerous rogue nations if they are truly a threat.

People are not pro-war. They are simply ready to acknowledge when war is, unfortunately, a necessary last resort. The problem with some anti-war people, is that they have have ignorant, oversimplified views of complex geopolitical situations. Many times, they demonize those that are doing their best to protect their country.

The classic example is Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. After Europe was badly rocked by WWI, they were extremely hesitant to fight another war. So when Adolf Hitler began seizing territory aggressively, Chamberlain opted for "diplomacy", and negotiated with Hitler. He arrived home declaring that "there will be peace in our time!" after his talks with Hitler. Little did he know how wrong he was. Hitler later would reflect on Chamberlain, calling him a "fool".

If you have exhausted all other options, and war is the last resort, then I am for war.
Or if one's country is attacked, war is the only option.
And you should show no mercy.
And some people call me a tree-hugging liberal!!??

BUT, to go to war unprepared, without a definite warplan, and then get stuck in the middle of a fullblown civil war, and refuse to heed the wishes of the elecorate is sheer idiocy!

While I am against this war, sometimes it is necessary...for example, WWII and Kosovo. WWII we were attacked first and Kosovo was for humanitarian purposes. We got rid of Milosovich. I am no lover of war, but sometimes it's necessary. But, this war? We have never, ever started a war...until Bush. We don't start wars, we finish them.
