I have a 7 port wired router distributing LAN ethernet connection to every room in the house. I would like to add wireless internet connection within and other areas of the house with minimal changes to my current setup.

I was thinking of using one of the LAN ethernet connection from one of the rooms to link up the wireless router. Is this setup possible? I'm not sure if a wireless router can be setup within an existing wired router LAN connection... Is there a special setting I need to do?

Yes. You can connect the wired into the wireless or the other way around. Just be sure to plug one into the WAN port of the other. (For example, take a network line from one of the seven ports and plug it into the WAN port of the wireless router.)

Be sure that the DHCP settings on the wireless router do not conflict with the wired router. Then, when setting up the wireless (assuming it's plugged into the wired router) set its network settings to receive IP address and DNS info from the network. You may want to set its IP address to 192.168.0.2 (or whatever your subnet is.)

My wireless router also has ports for a direct link. Something about the house I live in makes the signal very weak to adjacent rooms and we ended up just running a cord through. Here's how my setup looks:

DSL modem is connected to the computer... Wireless is connected to DSL modem... Other connections come out of the wireless.

I am far from a computer/technical nerd though, so I'm not sure how helpful this will be. =P

in accordance to what sort of prompt router you've this would nicely be really ordinary or it will be truly complicated if you're no longer precisely positive what you're doing. As Hokum said, many routers will immediately away disable DHCP function in case you plug the ethernet cable connecting the stressed out router to the prompt router into obtainable LAN ports on both routers and not at all into the WAN port on the prompt one. If this isn't operating for you with in simple terms one step, try the below with the prompt router plugged right into a means source and into one computer by a LAN port, for config purposes, yet no longer appropriate to the stressed out router and subsequently to for your unique community. On some routers this would must be performed manually with the intention for instance the prompt router into an get entry to point in effortless words; the strategies for doing this variety from sort to sort yet frequently it really is so straight forward as disabling a toggle decision. the subsequent step is one it really is continually missed by human beings attempting to attempt this. On common router fashions like the DI-524, case in point, which takes a default static IP of 192.168.0.a million as a replace of the further common 192.168.a million.a million, you would ought to modify the default address of the prompt router to register on an similar community because the unique router, as a replace of arising it really is own. %. some thing that does no longer conflict with the different static inner IPs given to the different machines on the community (eg. - 192.168.a million.X , except for 192.169.a million.a million assuming it is your unique router's static IP and the different static addresses on your present community) this can continually be an subject, even at the same time as connecting 2 routers of an similar producer because they're going to attempt to occupy an similar static IP so this can favor to be performed. Now connect the prompt router to the stressed out router by LAN ports on both ends and also you should have a operating "stack" or daisy-chain. you could try once you have become connectivity by the different router by leaving the computer appropriate to the prompt router by a LAN port as adverse to attempting to leap on to prompt. After installation that there is connectivity, configure the prompt settings in accordance to what you want. get decrease back to me if any of that is unclear or in case you run right into a difficulty.
