They are not really the same at all.
Crunk (sometimes Krunk) is a type of hip-hop invented by Lil Jon. It mixes heavy hip-hop beats and punk-like rock chords to make a heavy, intense dance track. The lyrics are rapped and often screamed in parts. It is the highlight, in my mind, of dirty south hip-hop.
Hyphy music is a Bay Area style of Hip-Hop. Keak Da Sneak claims that he invented it, but E-40 popularized it. It is significantly less intense in it's sound than crunk music. It also has a very unique set of slang. Some examples can be seen at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyphy
Where these two things are similar is in the culture surrounding them. Both emphasize partying and drinking. Hyphy culture has a higher emphasis on drugs especially Ecstasy (X). Both emphasizing dancing and acting crazy (Acting a Fool in crunk and Going Dumb in hyphy).
An excellent example of crunk is Act a Fool by Lil' Jon Ft. Three 6 Mafia.
A perfect example of hyphy music is U and Dat by E-40 Ft. T-Pain & Kandi Girl.

no they are not the same:
Crunk means: Crazy and drunk. "i wanna go to a party and get CRUNK!" Like Lil Jon has his "crunk juice" which is liqure.
Hyphy is short for "hyperactive"; or a combination of "hype" and "fly." (made famous by rap artist E-40). Its also know as getting stupid, getting dumb, going crazy.

Hi. Crunk means crazy drunk. Highly intoxicated. ("Crunk or die") Hyphy means a way of living, ignorant (we stay hiphy in our white tee, our blue jeans and our nikes). I hope that helps.

They're actually the same and different.Crunk music is music that gets you pumped to dance in the club or wherever.While hyphy is music that you can act crazy to.Basically do all types of funny moves or dances you wouldn't do to any other type of music.But they both make you wanna get up and dance.
