I am a 9th grader in all honors classes. My mom thinks that I am too obessive over school because I am already studying for the SAT's in 11th grade. Am I at fault or is my mom at fault?

Dude, im in 11th grade and in all Honors/AP classes. you really shouldnt be studying for the SATs already, do that in two years! just buy a book, take a class and school and study for about 2-3 months in advance. Studying now is pointless because you wont remember any of the info that your reading. You might be trying to learn techniques, but honestly, there arent any. You take the test, you have a time limit thats about the extent of it. I take the ACTs in about 2 months and i started studying already, dont study that far in advance your just causing problems for yourself. And i think that it is your moms fault because pressuring you wont do any good and it will just have u stressing for no reason, and like you dont already have enough on your plate as is! Good luck, STOP STUDYING, and tell your mom to leave you alone for the time being.

You are both right. Your mom is right because she doesn't want you to be so obsessed with your studies that you don't enjoy the high school experience. Remember that colleges want smart kids who have regularly made good grades, but they also want well-rounded kids who have participated in school activities like music, sports, and clubs and who have been good citizens by doing community service. However, you are also righ. Unless things have changed, National Merit Scholars (and great scholarships) are selected based on the PSAT's, which are usually taken in during your sophomore year. Also, preparing slowly over time should help make you feel more prepared and less nervous when it is time to take the test. Take the test as soon as you can. That way, if you don't do as well as you want, you have time to take it again before college applications are due early (usually before Thanksgiving of your senior year).

I think it is wonderful that you are so dedicated to your education. With a high SAT score you can get a lot of scholarships, and get into fine colleges and universities. Keep up the good work. You are going to go far in life!

Nobody's at fault. You can never be too prepared or too smart.
