Everything causes cancer these days. UV Rays, microwaves, macrowaves.. it doesn't matter what you are using. Soon scientists will discover that the emissions coming from the tv will cause cancer... my point... the frequencies being emitted from a cellphone is nothing worse than half the other cancer-causing things in the world.
If you want a cell phone, ask your mom for a prepaid phone. You can even save up and get the Motorola C-139 from Cingular for $20 and save up for the minutes. If you show her that you can be responsible, she will be ok with you having one.

Well cell phones do produce a low radiation. Some studies show that with long term use cellphones can cause brain tumors. Another study done only showed 2 out f 20,000 people who used cell phones several times a day for over 21 years had developed aa brain tumor. So the risk is low. I would say 13 or 14 is a good age to get one. Any younger than that is too young.

Yeah, they are great for kids. Im a teen and use mine all the time, rarely for use talking with friends, but talking with my parents. I use it everyday to text my mom to let her know im on the bus, and i bring it to the movies, mall, etc. to make sure i can ALWAYS contact my parents. I think every kid should have one once they start going to the movies with friends or anywhere, where a parent isnt. And all that cancer stuff, is really dumb. It seems like everything these days causes cancer. I heard soda cans can cause cancer--its a bunch of crap. Cell phones are needed--everyone should have one, as long as people arent rude while out in public or driving talking on them.

That was proven false, according to an article in TIME magazine, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I think cell phones are great for kids, it helps parents and children stay in touch.
