all forms of birth control can cause weight gain since it is an oral hormone that tells your body that you are pregnant. when you are pregnant you gain weight so it can happen with all forms of birth control. but this is really the least of your worries. if you use birth control and smoke and are between the ages of 12 and 35. you are at an incredably high risk of developing blood clots that can cause serious problems all of them fatal. but if you are going to take them talk to your OB/GYN for one that is a lower dose pill such as Yaz these will cause you to retain less water, which is what the majority of the weight gained is.

Most hormonal kinds of birth control potentially cause weight gain, but don't necessarily and many women don't gain weight on the pill. Most people I know who have been on the pill don't gain weight or if they do it's maybe 2 lbs which they drop a few months later anyway. Other than that there are barrier methods which are less convenient and more prone to human error (ie. diaphram, condom). If your in a committed relationship, your best bet is hormonal birth control and watch what you eat. No big deal.

I'm a guy, so take this with a grain of salt

but each woman is different and the different levels of hormones in each may effect you differently, so you may have to ask your doctor to switch your prescription if there are many negative side affects
