I am from the U.S. (and am half-Scottish) and remember my grandmother reciting poetry - Burns, et al - her accent sent a shiver up my spine. Long live the great Celts. Be proud. I wish I had the accent myself (but as you know all Scots can reproduce it at will - it is in the genes).

"I was born across the road from Billy Connolly, Now tell the truth who would like an accent like Billy . If Billy was a Doctor and you went to consult him you would come out of the surgery laughing your head off even forget what you went in for.Lets face It
our accent is rubbish."
You are generalising a bit, though I agree the Weegie accent is crap (you must be a Weegie as you mentioned Connolly). Everytime i've been in Glasgow it's like I have just walked onto another planet. I like the accents of Gaelic speaking people the best. There is a certainly lyrical quality to that accent.

Oddly enough...
..I did a delivery to Edinburgh Thursday. I'm a courier. I live in the midlands.
The guy I was delivering to, had an impeccable Scottish accent. Almost transfixing. Talking for about 1/2 an hour before I headed back south. Before I did I fuelled up just south of the city and the guy behind the tills accent was dreadful! I don't know what it was, what he was saying or what, but..it was awful.
I bet it's the same in England though, some accents seem pretty ok. Some maybe, not so good on the ear!
Learn to live with and love your voice. If you really can't stand it, get lessons.

Not true! Scottish accents are the sexiest in the world. Gerry Butler. Mmmmm....Whoops! Sorry. I just had to drool for a second.
I, personally, have a little term called the "Scottish 50". Saying that Scottish accents add 50% onto a person's hott percentage. For example. Say Craig Ferguson is a 25%. The accent makes him a 75%.
You got it good, hon. ;D

I happen to think the Scottish accent is dead sexy!English accents are bloody brilliant and I'm not sure about an Irish adjective to say how much I like to hear them as well, but I think you get my meaning
