when i restarted my computer, it recovered some of my file, and then i saved it.
i went to go open it, and all my info is gone!!!!!!!!!!
it went back to the original file!
is there a way i can get back recovered documents once they are gone from the recovered documents window?

Recent versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, etc, make emergency copies of your files if the application crashes, but if your pc suddenly rebooted, then Word had no time to make a recovery copy, so the chances of you getting a version when your pc rebooted are slim.

You also said that you saved it when it recovered some of your file. You may have overwritten any changes you wanted to keep from before. Best practice is to 'Save As' and give it a version number.

This is a long shot, but have a look in the Temp folder (you may find it under a different name, usually beginning with a "~" symbol).

Look in:

Documents and Settings/(your log in name)/Local Settings/Temp.

Good luck.

Been there; done that. Grrrrr! Lesson I learned the hard way is to save a document every few minutes. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but those files are lost. I had to recopy from memory a big document and thought I had it perfect. That night while sleeping, it came to me that I had forgotten a vital part. I was able to change it in the nick of time. Good luck. I feel your pain.

Sometimes a copy of yourfile.doc will be saved in the same directory as ~$urfile.doc. Also check the recycle bin.

If you have a scanner, you could scan the printout and use the OCR (optical character recognition) software to convert it to a text file. You could import the text file into your word processor and then clean up the formatting and OCR errors.

this would possibly no longer assist you presently, yet interior the destiny, you're able to choose a unfastened software like clonezilla. Backups are good, like the 2d you made them. Do a google seek for document & records restoration, and yet another one for 'the thank you to unformat a perplexing force'

I'm afraid pshdsa is correct. We have all done it. I call it the price of tuition to the school of experience.
