When people get married their expectations change from when they were single. Marriage is a big life changing event. If someone is single and wants to change that, its because they are looking for something more in their life. They think marriage will bring that.

Just remember that no one stays the same forever. Everyone changes. My parents are married for 45 years. The man my mom married all those years ago has changed a lot thru the years and she has changed, too.

Think of it this way: You're in a great room that you never want to leave - its just awesome.

And then somebody locks the door.

Most people would start to feel a bit nervous.

In any case, religious implications asside, nothing says
"committed" like MORTGAGE. Marriage had NOTHING
compared to signing 7 zillion things saying that the bank
could have us filleted and sauteed if we didn't pay them.

However, that's probably because emotionally, we'd
been married for more than a year before we actually
walked the aisle.

I agree with n9 above. My husband tries to pull that "I'm the same now as when we first met" I then remind him that no he's now 10 years older with 3 kids.
Marriage should have no factor in a person changing. What changes is your situation. You go from having to only worry about yourself to worrying about another life. Then you factor in kids you have and now you have to worry & plan for them.
When your single or in the being of a relationship the only main worry is taking care of yourself

I couldn't remain the same. I became a husband, later a father.
I spent many years a bachelor, things cannot remain the same when the equation changes.
It's HOW you change that makes the difference in a marriage/family.

I don't know, but that's the reason why people who live together before they get married end up getting divorced.

I have been married twice. It has been my experience than people are not their true self's. Once you say I do a few months later you see who they really are.
