Won't that mean we stopped two wars in row: Vietnam, and Iraq?

When is Imperial Washington going to learn not to start a war unless ALL Americans are behind it at the get-go.

America did not go to war in Bosnia, but I spoke up against Somalia and Kosovo. We did manage to stop Somalia before too long, and fortunately the Kosovo campaign did not drag on beyond a few months.

2 million people weren't killed in Vietnam after the US left.

4 million people WERE killed by the US in Vietnam.

I hope so, but the right will moan and complain and make up nonsense "proving" it was the liberals who "lost the war".

Well, no. There was a little intervening war called Afghanistan that ALL Americans were for, so you don't get credit for two in a row.

And in case you have not noticed, there are a whole lot more people than just the anti-war movement digging in their heels on Iraq at this point. They are not anti-war so much as just flipping angry at how the current adminsitration is handling Iraq. Count me among those.

It is also interesting to me that the presidents behind those two wars in question both came from the same state, though not from the same party. Remember, Nixon was elected on a promise to end the war, he just took his sweet time doing it.

Additional:

Meathook, the Vietnam was WAS a Democratic war started by a Liberal. Kennedy or Johnson, take your pick.

Freaky is at least being consistant on that point.

The anti-war movement yanked the carpet out from under Nixion who was negotiating a settlement. We had an agreement that we would pull out but if the North started to kill people in the South we would come back in in force. Once we pulled the troops out the democrats in congress renegged on the deal and cut the funding so he could not send the troops back in. Hundreds of thousands, do you understand? Hundreds of thousands of good and freedom loving people in South Vietnam were slaughtered because of people like you. Now you are so anxious to do it again. The president knows damn well that if we "redeploy" the troops the democrats will jump at the chance to cut the funding and blame the resulting slaughter on the president. And believe me so does the enemy. The psycho president of Iran said so the other day. He believes President Bush is atypical. He believes that no other American President will have the will to oppose him. I fear he may be right. God help us all if you anti-war people are successful again.

The term is "lost" - not "ended."

No war ever, regardless of the necessity or America's security will ever have ALL Americans behind it. As far as "at the get go" - I think Iraq had a pretty good cheering section at the start.

I know you won't understand or agree with me, but we must not allow a victory to be gained by this demented ideology through the tactics of terror and murder of innocent civilians. Do not be so sure that allowing the terrorists a victory in this war is in your best interests. The future consequences may be much worse the second time around.

Why do you anti-war types always forget the dismal failures of the previous administration?

Bosnia
Kosovo
Somalia

The anti-war crowd really never spoke up over these conflicts. Why was that? Maybe because there was a Democrat in office. Each of these conflicts was an unwinable situation that was fumbled much worse than Iraq has ever been. Why was there not the same outcry as you hear over Iraq?

Actually I guess you're not counting Gulf War I that occurred in the middle and our overwhelming success and support from the international community led to us winning that handily.

What will end this war is the lack of an attainable military objective.

I hope not.

I cannot see anyone happily taking credit for the 2 million people killed after the US left Vietnam.

And I cannot see anyone happily taking credit for whatever radical Islam has in store for the world.
