Technically the Shiite are winning.
Shiites form the majority in Iraq, Iran, Bahrain and Azerbaijan.
Crucially, Shiites outnumber Sunnis in the Middle East's major oil-producing regions--not only Iran and Iraq but also eastern Saudi Arabia.
There are Shiite led governments right now in both Iran and Iraq.
In Iraq there is not just Sunni-Shiite fighting but also some infighting between the Shiites.
Two big name Shiite leaders don't get along and each have private militia (that the current Shiite Iraqi President Mahliki has stopped the US military from disbanding.)
The missing radical anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, said by some now to be in Iran, controls one of the largest voting blocs in Iraqi parliament. He also controls the Mahdi Army who permeate Iraq’s security forces, control the streets throughout eastern Baghdad and the Shiite south, and fill the ranks of many of the death squads that terrorize the country’s Sunni minority.
And Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, an older and much more educated man who heads the country’s largest Shiite party, the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq and also leads the Badr militia. His son was just arrested at the Iranian border Thursday and was released with great apology by the US. The son claims now that he was abused.
Funny that the two Shiite Iraqi leaders should be connected to Iraq (an anti-American Shiite led country who supposedly is supply weapons to these two private militias.)
During the President's Troop Surge plan, the extra troops are joining with Iraqi military and police going door to door looking for weapons and wanted criminals. Sunni's are claiming the US is biased against them and only going after their militia.
So the US is in a tight spot. The Sunni's are mad at us, the two leading Shiite factions are are mad at us. And even thier current US backed President is saying bad things about us.
As the US troops were performing the Baghdad crackdown many of them brought lollipops for children they came across to downplay the trauma. But the soldiers reported that the lollipops were slapped away by the angry citizens.
I think we have lost the hearts and souls of all Iraqis.
But the answer again to your question is Shiites.

Depends on where....Sunnis are the vast majority of Muslims in the world. Osama is Sunni. Buy Shiites are the vast majority in Iraq and Iran; and Hezbollah is Shiite.
But numbers aren't everything, as Saddam Hussein proved.
Iran clearly wants to see a Shiite government in Iraq, but of course Al Qaeda would prefer Sunni...

If the U. S. pulls out of Iraq till now establishing a effective government there, i anticipate suitable right here: the two Iran or Turkey will invade for their own political motives first, observed on the on the spot by using way of different, then Syria after which Saudi Arabia will annex the self reliant Zone. Iran will occupy indoors the south seizing the provinces of Al-Basrah, Al-Muthanna, An-Najaf, Al-Qadisiyah, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Karbala, Babal, Wasit, Diyala and the city of Baghdad. Turkey will occupy from the north seizing the provinces of Dahuk, Irbil, Ninawa, At-Tamim, Sulaymaniyah, Salahad-Din and that component of Al-Anbar north of the Euphrates River to the outskirts of Baghdad. The Syrians will seize something of Al-Anbar. all sides will scrupulously stay faraway from battling one yet yet another with Iran and Syria being the considerable careful to stay faraway from the Turks. indoors the lengthy time era, if the Turks take a extra 'enlightened' view of subject concerns, they'll enable the Kurds to have an self reliant 'state' indoors a 'extra constructive Turkey' friendly their want for self decision. As for something Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria will actual take contained in the territory and people into their respective states and which may be that. in fact, besides the actual undeniable fact that if the U. S. does not pull out this could take place: US Forces could desire to/could desire to actual hollow up in our garrisons and make threatening noises till the airborne dirt and dirt settles..... The Turks are our allies, the Syrians do now no longer want to wrestle us and the saber rattling to different, neither does Iran.

Shia comprise about 60% of the population in Iraq and their "democratically" elected government is under their control, including much of the police force. The US is supporting the government so by extension the Shia in Iraq, and of course the Iranians also support them so I guess they are winning, if there is such a thing over there.

Nobody. They both have to learn to share their country and accept each other (and others) for who they are.
