I guess it depends upon whether you wanna go retro or stick with something modern?
Being a child of the late 60s and early 70s....I'm rather partial to anything uptempo from THE BEATLES, ELTON JOHN, MOTOWN, or (perhaps) DISCO. Do a little research into Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, and Billy Joel too.

Anything by Sixpence None the Richer. Their tunes are upbeat, the girl can really sing, and they're a fun band that people can relate to more than Brittney Spears, Beyonce, Shakira, or any of that bubble gum pop crap. (I'm assuming from your avatar that you're a girl...)
